Stephen Hicks

Stephen Hicks is a Canadian-American philosopher who teaches at Rockford University, where he also directs the Center for Ethics and Entrepreneurship. Hicks earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Guelph, Canada, and his Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington. His doctoral thesis was a defense of foundationalism. From 1999-2000 Hicks was a senior fellow at The Atlas Society.

In his popular book Explaining Postmodernism: Skepticism and Socialism from Rousseau to Foucault, Hicks argues that postmodernism is best understood as a reactive rhetorical strategy of intellectuals and academics on the far-Left to the failure of socialism and communism.

Through her Reason, Individualism, Freedom Institute (RIFI), education pioneer Marsha Enright runs the Great Connections Seminars for high school and college students, and working and retired adults, using the Classics and modern texts across the ideological spectrum, including classical liberalism, free market economics, and the philosophy of a free society.
